Chandraswami withdraws plea against penalty

Controversial godman Chandraswami has withdrawn his petition in the Supreme Court challenging the around R9 crore penalty imposed by the Enforcement Directorate in several FERA violation cases against him. The counsel, appearing for Chandraswami, told a bench headed by Justice Aftab Alam about his decision to withdraw the matter. Earlier, on June 16, the apex court had turned down the plea of Chandraswami to extend the time and asked him to pay 9 crores. The Enforcement Directorate had slapped the penalty in seven cases against Chandraswami, his close aide Vikram Singh and his ashram, Vishwa Dharmayatan Sanstha.
