Chandrababu's hunger strike enters Day 7

In Andhra Pradesh, Telugu Desam Party President Chandrababu Naidu is continuing his indefinite hunger strike for the seventh day. Mr. Naidu has been insisting that his demands for providing relief to rain-hit farmers should be met by the Government. He has rejected several appeals made by the government and leaders of parties across the political spectrum to call off his fast. Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences Director P V Ramesh said Mr. Naidu's health condition has been showing significant deterioration. Meanwhile, the government has convened an all party meeting to discuss the farmers' issue. The meeting is underway under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. Meanwhile, the TDP and the left parties are blocking national highways today as part of their protest. On the other hand, 48 hour mass hunger strike led by former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy concluded this morning in Vijayawada. Jaganmohan Reddy, who resigned from the Congress has been demanding the government to announce better package to farmers.
