CGF rejects OC demands to remove Hooper and scrap panel

Commonwealth Games Federation today said that it would neither remove CGF chief executive Mike Hooper nor would backtrack on its plan to have a Technical Review Panel to monitor preparation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In a statement released today CGF president Michael Fennell advised the Olympic Committee to focus more on the work at hand, rather than seeking someone's removal and criticizing Hooper. Fennel said we are naturally very surprised and disappointed in receiving this request to remove Mr Hooper from Delhi given his unquestionable commitment to the successful celebration of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Responding to the New Delhi organizing committee Head Mr. Suresh Kalmadi's letter and public statement, Mr Fennel said that Mr Hooper enjoys the full support of the CGF's Executive Board, and is totally dedicated to the Commonwealth Games movement.Mr Suresh Kalmadi had demanded yesterday that the CGF remove Hooper, from his operational role in the Indian capital. Mr Kalamadi accused Hooper of being an impediment to functioning. He also complained about the independent technical review panel that the CGF plans to set up to oversee the preparations. He said that the multiplicity" of committees would hamper efforts to deliver the games.
