CFTRI Mysuru going to conduct human clinical trials for anti-obesity cooking oil developed by it

In a first such kind of approach in India, Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) Mysuru is going to conduct human clinical trials for an anti-obesity cooking oil developed by it. Usually, only new drugs developed internationally but set to be sold in the country, are subject to such trials. The trial is aimed at testing whether the oil has side effects and at what extent it can help contain obesity.<br/><br/>Talking to AIR, the Director of CFTRI, Ram Rajasekharan said the identified medical institutions including Mysore Medical College and Research Institute and Manipal University will undertake the trials starting from next month and it will take six months time. He said not only cooking oil, the CFTRI is also going to prepare more of the products from this anti-obesity oil.<br/><br/>The developed oil has been chemically altered, less of it is stored as fat and more burnt off to provide energy. The oil does not promise to make a person thin, but helps the body use the energy from fried food more efficiently.<br/><br/>Mr Rajasekharan also informed that CFTRI is ready to file patent for a variation of sugar cane juice which can be consumed by diabetic people.
