A nine-seater plane of northeast shuttle service, Cessna Caravan, today skidded off the runway at the Lengpui Airport in Aizawl, causing minor injuries to seven passengers. The incident took place at 10:42 this morning, when the small aircraft, carrying nine passengers from Imphal to Aizawl, touched down the end part of the air strip and went into a gorge about 25 meters from the runway. The reason behind the incident is told to be the unstable wind conditions at the airport while the Meteorological department at the Lengpui Airport said that the visibility was very low and that is what caused the incident. The state Transport Minister and other senior officials reached the spot and took stock of the situation. The DGCA authorities will inspect the spot tomorrow for further details and action.
