Centre works out development package for naxal affected areas

The centre has worked out a development package for naxal affected areas in various states in consultation with state governments. The anti-naxal plan includes starting developmental works in areas cleared off the Left-wing extremism. As part of its "holistic" anti-naxal plan, funds would be disbursed this fiscal and spent over a span of three years in those areas where the naxals are driven out. Union Home Secretary G.K. Pillai told reporters in New Delhi that in the first year, 1,000 crore rupees will be spent in areas where civil administration is restored after successfully eliminating the Naxal menace. The key difference in current strategy is that the plan will have heavy deployment of security forces to ensure elimination of naxals and restoration of civil administration. According to the plan, initially six districts in four states Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa and Maharashtra have been selected to implement the strategy. So far, the Centre has provided around 40,000 personnel of central paramilitary forces for the anti-naxal operation and some more would be pumped in.<br/>
