The government today said that it is in the process of strengthening the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD).
Speaking at a function organised by the BPRD, Minister of State for Home, Jitendra Singh said the Ministry would provide more infrastructure and resources to this prestigious organisation for carrying out research work.
The minister said that naxalism and terrorism are the major challenges facing the country. He urged the police to have a humane face.
Speaking on the occasion, BPRD Director General, Vikram Srivastava said the organisation has kept pace with the new innovations. Mr. Srivastava informed that the budgetary allocation for BPRD has been increased to 127 crore in 2011-12 from nine crore in 2007-08.
He said a central academy for police training is being set up in Bhopal under the 11th plan period.
Mr. Srivastava also said two more central detective training schools are being established at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and Jaipur in Rajasthan.
The minister also presented the President's Police Medal to Mr. Ish Kumar, a 1985 batch Andhra cadre IPS officer.
