The Centre today said that it is working on a model for the states on land titles. Speaking at a seminar in New Delhi today, Union Minister for Urban Development Jaipal Reddy said that in the wake of the surfacing of land scams and long pending disputes over land, it had become all the more important to bring land title reforms. Referring to the Adarsh Housing Society scam, Reddy said that nobody appeared to know to whom the land belonged. He also said that while earlier there were land mafias like Haji Mastan, now more and more cases of involvement of politicians and police in land scams are sufacing. He said that a working group has been set up to develop the model on land titles. Reddy said this will help in checking land scams and also litigation on land titles.
