Government will conduct a Survey to identify people still working as manual scavengers. The survey aims at rehabilitating such persons. It will be conducted in 164 districts of 18 states to identify the real data of manual scavengers. <br/><br/>Chairing a meeting of the Ministers and Principal Secretaries of the States for the Survey of Manual Scavengers in New Delhi today, Social Justice Empowerment Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot said, Centre wants to eradicate manual scavenging and rehabilitate all those persons who are no longer engaged in manual scavenging. <br/><br/>He said response of several states is poor in providing the real data of people engaged in manual scavenging. Mr Gehlot said, only 13 states have provided the information of 15 thousand 375 people engaged in this practice. He said, out of them more than 13 thousand 500 people have been imparted training and assistance of 40 thousand rupees were provided to each of them. <br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman, Rajiv Kumar urged the states to co-operate in the survey to eradicate the practice of manual scavenging. <br/><br/>
