Union Rural Development Minister Mr Jairam Ramesh on Saturday called upon public sectors banks to focus on giving credit to Self Help Groups, SHGs, in North and Eastern States of the country. Mr. Ramesh was talking to media after a national meet of Rural Self Employment Training Institutes, Stakeholders for Recognition of Best Performers in New Delhi. He said banks alone have provided credit 80 per cent out of 17000 crore rupees to SHGs in four states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.
