The Centre has decided to upgrade one lakh looms this year under powerlooms upgradation scheme to ensure growth of textile sector. Briefing reporters in New Delhi on the achievements of his Ministry during last two years, Textile Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar said that during last 15 months nearly 55 thousand looms have been upgraded and during next five to ten years the government has decided to upgrade all the existing looms in the country. <br/><br/>Mr Gangwar said, a subsidy of 59 crore rupees have also been released under the scheme. He said, in addition to it, financial assistance to the people belonging to General Category, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes have also been raised under the scheme.<br/><br/>Mr Gangwar said, the government has introduced Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (ATUFS) from this year for technology upgradation of the textiles industry. He said, the scheme will be implemented till 2022 for which a budgetary provision of 17 thousand 882 crore rupees have been made. The Minister has exuded confidence that the scheme will attract an invest of one lakh crore rupees and generate over 31 lakh jobs.
