The Centre will soon undertake a study on about 100-odd dams coming up in Arunachal Pradesh. The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who was on a day-long visit to Assam, told a select group of newsmen before his departure at Borjhar Airport in Guwahati yesterday, he said the Centre will take a holistic view of the problem. A number of anti-dam groups are on strike in both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh since long to stop construction of the proposed dams.
Dr. Singh said communication and development of infrastructure are key areas which should get priority in the North-East, including Assam. The Prime Minister said the ‘Look East Policy’ of the Government and other related issues like insurgency would be discussed with the Myanmar Government during his scheduled visit to Myanmar next month.
