The government today said several measures will be taken during the 12th five year plan to prevent growing numbers of road accidents in the country.
Speaking at the National Road Safety Council meeting in New Delhi, minister for Road and Highways C P Joshi called for application of Information Technology in road transport to ensure transparency, increase efficiency and provide speedy services.
Mr. Joshi said that the centre will set up more world class motor driving institutes to train drivers and generate awareness about issues of road safety.
He said every year over 1.34 lakh people die due to road accidents in the country which is highest in the world.
