Centre to take action against misleading advertisements endorsed by celebrities

Terming adulteration as a serious issue, the government today said that it will take action against misleading advertisements endorsed by celebrities. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public distribution minister , Ram Vilas Paswan said a consumer can make a complaint against unfair trade practice in Consumer Forums established under Consumer Protection Act. He said from March 2015 till date, a total of 3220 complaints have registered on the portal, which was launched to enable consumers to register their complaints against false and misleading advertisement. Mr Paswan said of the complaints received, 1683 complaints have been resolved and 715 complaints rejected.<br/><br/>The minister informed the House to ensure inter-ministerial coordination, an inter-ministerial monitoring committee has been established in 2014 which monitors the redressal of complaints receive on a portal 'Grievances Against Misleading Advertisements'. Mr. Paswan said the Advertising Standards Council of India, a voluntary body of Advertisement Industry, self-regulates advertising content to monitor and decide on complaints against objectionable advertisements.
