Centre to strengthen terrestrial transmission towers in border areas

The Centre is to strengthen terrestrial transmission towers in the border areas at a cost of 100 crore rupees to counter anti India propaganda being carried by neighbouring countries. Speaking at the two day Media and Entertainment business conclave jointly organized by the Tamil Nadu Government and FICCI in Chennai on Wednesday, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mrs. Ambika Soni said the ministry will promote private public partnership to create an international market for Indian films. Coming out strongly against censorship or regulation of television programmes by the government, the minister called for establishing a self regulatory mechanism for television industry .She said the mechanism needs to ensure that freedom of expression does not clash with the interests of civil society.<br/> <br/>The Minister said the third phase of auction of FM radio channels will be announced shortly and this she said will take radio to further most corner of the country. Making a strong commitment in tackling video piracy, Mrs. Ambika Soni, said piracy is the biggest bane and said unscrupulous elements should not allowed to exploit the film industry. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M. Karunanidhi who inaugurated the conclave urged film makers to contribute their might in promoting the larger interest of the economically weaker section of society. Recalling the association with the film industry, Mr. Karunanidhi said Tamil cinema and theatre have played a big role in the growth of the Dravidian movement and was instrumental in reforming society.<br/><br/>
