The Centre today asked States to put all information related to implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and Public Distribution System in public domain. It has also asked them to ensure proactive disclosure of information under RTI Act on public works done by a department at block and panchayat levels.

Department of Personnel and Training, DOPT through a letter to State Chief Secretaries today sent detailed guidelines on proactive disclosure. The purpose is to put information in public domain to make the functioning of public authorities more transparent and also to reduce the need for filing individual RTI applications.

The directive is based on the recommendations of a task force set up in 2011 to improve suo motu disclosure under RTI Act.
