The Centre has asked the states not to allow security forces engaged in the counter-insurgency operations to occupy school buildings. The Union Minister for Human Resource Development-HRD, Mr M.M Pallam Raju said that occupation of schools by security forces in Naxal-affected districts, has been one of the reasons for the extremists targeting educational institutions. Mr Raju said this while addressing the National Consultation on Education in Areas Affected by Civil Strife, organised by UNICEF in New Delhi today. He said that clear-cut instructions have been issued to the states to ensure that no school building is used or occupied by the security forces. The HRD Minister also asked the collectors of the mineral-rich Naxal- affected districts to utilize the Corporate Social Responsibility funds to construct girls' toilets and address the drinking water problem in school premises.
