Centre to soon conduct national survey of weavers

Centre will soon conduct a national survey of weavers to provide them all possible help. Speaking at main program of National Handloom Day at Varanasi today, Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani said that government will also launch a national Helpline for weavers where they can discuss their problems and get the solution. The Helpline will also provide them all the information about marketing, market trends and finances, she said. The government is also planning to provide education to the children of weavers in such a manner that they can also learn the age old traditions of weaving while studying. <br/> <br/>Five MoUs were signed on this occasion for the betterment of weaving community. Famous designers Reena Dhaka, Tarun Tahiliani and several others were also present on this occasion. Speaking on this occasion, Union Skill Development Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said there will be no dearth of training and finance for weavers. He apprised that currently a program is being run by union government in which weavers can start any project for which centre will provide 90 per cent funding while remaining ten per cent is to arranged by beneficiary. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that on this occasion prestigious Kabir Awards were given to three persons. Sharat Kumar Patra and Bhaktraj Mehar from Odisha and Wankar Bhimji from Gujrat were the recipients. While National Handloom Awards were given to twenty one persons. On this occasion Smriti Irani also dedicated six 'Common Facility Centers' at Varanasi.
