Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Saturday said the National Consumer Authority will soon be set up to strengthen consumer protection mechanism in the country. <br/><br/>He said the Consumer Protection Amendment Bill, which was introduced in parliament will strengthen the consumer dispute redressal mechanism.<br/><br/>Speaking after inaugurating the new building of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) office in Hyderabad Saturday evening, Mr Paswan said the Consumer Protection and BIS Amendment Bills are aimed at empowering consumers.<br/><br/>Ram Vilas Paswan said the BIS can be an instrument in fulfilling the Make in India and Skill India missions.<br/><br/>He opined that it will play a key role in protecting consumer interests especially when e-commerce is phenomenally increasing.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Urban Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu asserted that Politics of Development are need of the hour and asked the states to work together with the Centre.<br/><br/>He said the agencies like BIS should be strengthened for realising Make in India.<br/><br/>Stating that the consumer rights are paramount, he said the Bills pertaining to consumer rights should have been passed if Parliament functions properly.<br/><br/>He stressed the need for maintaining standards to increase international demand for Indian goods.
