Centre to set up Mortgage Risk Guarantee Fund

The Centre is to set up a Mortgage Risk Guarantee Fund to cover the risk of home loans given to the poor. This is to encourage lending for affordable housing to the economically weaker sections. Loans upto five lakh rupees will be given. The Centre's initial corpus is to be one thousand crore rupees. This information was given by the Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Namo Narain Meena, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
