The government will set up two semiconductor manufacturing facilities to develop electronic hardware in the country. Briefing to media in New Delhi on Monday, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Public Information, Infrastructure and Innovations Sam Pitroda said India is a largest exporter of Software but is dependent on imports for electronic items. Empowered Committee constituted by the Prime minister in this regard has made plan of action. He said the committee will talk to the international players in the field of semiconductor manufacturing and also will bring potential investors. Mr. Pitroda warned if facility of hardware manufacturing in our country is not developed, then by year 2025 import expenses of electronic hardware will be equal to our petroleum imports bill. He said in an era of technology, we must develop electronic hardware manufacturing facilities. Mr. Pitroda said committee will recommend for incentives to investors for hardware manufacturing. It will also facilitate to bring together both the technology owner and the investors.
