Centre to restructure National Social Assisstance Programme

The Centre will restructure the National Social Assisstance Programme, NSAP, to ensure proper distribution of pensions in the country. After restructuring, all payments of the scheme will be done through Aadhar-based payment system. Talking to media persons in New Delhi, Rural Development Minister, Jairam Ramesh said that the new system will be in place by 10th of next month. He said it will ensure that each beneficiary under old age, disabilities and widow pension schemes will get their entitlement every month.

The Minister said that the government spends nearly eight thousands crore rupees under the NSAP and after the restructuring of the scheme only one state agency will be identified for receipt of funds for final disbursement. Mr. Ramesh informed that the ministry had written to the Finance Ministry for relaxation of certain norms like reducing the criteria for disability in this scheme.
