Agriculture Minister says, Centre will release 921.98 crore rupees to Maharashtra for damages to onion crop due to excess rain. Addressing a function in New Delhi today Mr. Sharad Pawar said that onion shortage is only temporary and prices are expected to fall in the next 2-3 weeks. Their production
is unlikely to drop despite damage due to excessive rain. Echoing similar views, Commerce Minister Anand Sharma said there is no real scarcity of onions in the country and prices are expected to stabilise in the coming few weeks. Onion prices touched 100 Rupees a kg yesterday in some major cities as supplies remained tight.
