Centre to provide over 1 lakh tones of foodgrains under targeted PDS

The Centre will provide over one lakh tones of food grains as a monthly allocation to Kerala under Targeted Public Distribution System for the current financial year. In a statement released in New Delhi today, Food and Public Distribution Minister K V Thomas said that about seven thousand tones of wheat and over twenty six thousand tones rice will be allocated each month to the people living Below the Poverty Line.He added that Centre will provide all possible help to the Kerala government in various projects including ongoing computerization of Public Distribution Systems, increasing warehouse capacity and developing bio-metric based food grain distribution system. The Keral Chief Minister Mr. Ooman Chandy had called on the Food and Public Distribution Minister in the National capital. Prof. Thomas had a detailed discussion with Mr. Chandy about food grain allocations to the State under various schemes.
