Centre has decided to provide 390 Megawatt additional power to Karnataka in view of power crisis in the state. This was informed by Power Minister Piyush Goyal after meeting with a delegation of BJP MPs from the state including Union Ministers Ananth Kumar and Sadananda Gowda in New Delhi over the issue. Talking to reporters after the meeting, Mr. Goyal said the additional power will be immediately released to Karnataka.<br/><br/> The state is facing power shortage following the fire in Sharavathi power generating station and deficit monsoon affecting hydro-power generation. The Minister also urged the state government to join Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (UDAY) of the Central government to provide affordable power to the people. <br/><br/>He said so far, 17 states including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have joined the scheme. The UDAY provides for the financial turnaround and revival of Power Distribution companies and importantly also ensures a sustainable permanent solution to the problem.
