The government will make a statement in Lok Sabha today or tomorrow on the situation in the Kashmir valley. Sharing the concerns of the members over the violent incidents witnessed in parts of the valley since the 11th of June, the Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram said that Jammu and Kashmir is a sensitive state and the problems there are well known. He said that the situation has taken a serious turn on 30th of last month though there was a lull after July 19th. He informed the House that he has been in touch with the State Chief Minister who has arrived in the capital to discuss the issue with the senior leadership. Earlier, raising the matter during zero hour the Senior BJP leader Mr. L.K. Advani expressed serious concerns over the situation saying there are signs of violence and anarchy in the valley. He said that the government must take the House into confidence about what steps it is taking to restore peace in the valley. Echoing similar sentiments, the JDU leader wanted a statement by the government and wanted to know how the Opposition could help in the circumstances. Describing the situation in the valley as grave the CPIM leader Mr. Basudev Acharia stressed the need for dialogue. He said that the people in the state have lost faith in the state government and the central government should take steps to restore autonomy that has been eroded. He also demanded that a parliamentary delegation should be sent to Kashmir to know and assuage the feelings of the people saying that there is a deep alienation of the people in Srinagar and other areas. The Samajwadi party leader Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav said that none of the governments at the Centre have been able to win the confidence of the people in Kashmir and consensus should be evolved to achieve this. AIR correspondent says that Mr. Omar Abdullah is scheduled to meet the Prime Minister on Monday afternoon on the situation in the valley. On Sunday the Cabinet Committee on Security had taken stock of the situation following fresh spurt of violence in the valley. Meanwhile, fresh protests have erupted in Pampore Alochibagh.Ghander bal and some other places of Kashmir valley today despite curfew in Srinagar and all other main towns. The death toll in latest clashes since Friday has risen to fifteen. A boy injured in South Kashmir town of Bijbehara succumbed to injuries on Monday morning trigerring fresh protests. On Sunday four people had died in security forces firing in pampered when angry protesters set some government buildings and vehicles ablaze. Four persons had died in a blast nearby Khrew when after a firing incident people set a police camp on fire and ammunition dumped there went off. More then thirty people were injured in the tragic incident and some of them are said to be in serious condition. AIR correspondent reports that fresh killings have further complicated all ready prevailing challenging situations in the valley. AIR correspondent reports, the situation continues to be volatile. Authorities are trying to enforce curfew as stringently as possible to avoid any more killings but Sundays killings seem to have complicated the situation and brought to surface limitation of administrative measures in such a delicate situation On Monday as people assembled in large numbers in Pampore area authorities decided to withdraw police and paramilitary. Now all eyes are on today’s meeting between Prime Minister and State Chief Minister in Delhi. Analysts believe any significant political measures emerging from that meeting could have much needed cooling effect on the challenging situation in the valley.
