Centre to launch extensive water conservation programme for drought-prone areas

The Centre will today launch an extensive water conservation programme for drought-prone areas of Bundelkhand, Marathwada, Kalahandi, Bolangir and Koraput. Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti will launch the programme at Sagar in Madhya Pradesh.<br/><br/> The Ministry has prepared a master plan for artificial recharge of ground water in Bundelkhand region. Around 1,300 percolation tanks, 69,000 small check dams and 24,200 recharge pits have been identified. It has also taken up new initiatives under National Ground Water Management Improvement Schemes to improve ground water conditions.

Centre will launch extensive water conservation programme for drought prone areas of Bundelkhand, Marathwada, Kalahandi, Bolangir and Koraput (KBK) in Odisha.<br/><br/>Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti will formally launch the programme tomorrow at Sagar in Madhya Pradesh. The Minister said, her Ministry has prepared a master plan for artificial recharge of ground water in Bundelkhand region and around 1300 percolation tanks, 69000 small check dams and 24200 Recharge pits have been identified.<br/><br/>Ms Bharti said, her Ministry has also taken up new initiatives under National Ground Water Management Improvement Schemes with an objective to improve ground water conditions.
