Centre to issue smart cards to 40 crore workers in unorganised sector in the country

Union Labour Minister Bandaru dattatreya said the centre will soon issue social security smart cards to 40 crore workers in the unorganized sector. Speaking on the sidelines of a programme after launching Facebook and Twitter accounts of Employment Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) in Hyderabad Friday, the Union Minister said the government was aiming to bring all workers in the unorganized sector under social security net. He said the Labour Ministry will soon provide the workers with a Unorganised Worker Identification Number) card – U WIN number under smart cards. Dattatreya said welfare schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Suraksha Yojana, Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana would be converged into these smart cards to enable beneficiaries to avail benefits without hassles. He further said the smart cards would have portability and function anywhere for migrant workers.<br/><br/>

Union Minister for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya has said that the Centre will soon issue smart cards to 40 crore workers in the unorganised sector in the country. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Hyderabad held as part of Good Governance Day, he said shortly, they will launch a Social Security Card for all unorganised workers with a U-WIN (Unorganised Worker Identification Number) card. The Minister said the smart cards would facilitate workers to receive benefit under various government welfare schemes like Rashtriya Swasth Bima Yojana, Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana, and old age pension. Mr Dattatreya said Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Suraksha Yojana, Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Atal Pension schemes will also be converged into this smart card. He added that the card would have portability and function anywhere for migrant workers.<br/><br/>The Minister said in coordination with the Skill Development Ministry, they are going to provide employment to one crore people in next 2 years.<br/><br/>Mr Dattatreya also launched the Facebook and Twitter accounts of Employment Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) in Hyderabad. Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said these new initiatives are aimed at enabling EPFO subscribers to air their grievances, ideas and messages. He said the Facebook and Twitter platforms would be used by EPFO to inform subscribers and employees about new initiatives and facilities of the organization.<br/><br/>Referring to Employees State Insurance Scheme, Datttreaya said ESI scheme has been extended to building and construction workers in the selected areas across the country from August this year. He said the scheme is being implemented in industrial and commercial clusters of 393 districts in the country. <br/><br/>
