The Centre will on June 2 issue notification making it mandatory for public transport buses to have panic buttons. Announcing this today, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that the step will ensure the safety of women passengers travelling in public buses. The Minister will dedicate the buses with safety measures for women under the Nirbhaya Scheme after the proposal was approved by the Union Cabinet in January 2014.
