The Centre will invest Rs. 12, 000 crore for infrastructural development of the Kolkata Port Trust.Speaking to newsmen after inaugurating the bulk coal movement project from Sagar sandhead to Farakka in Kolkata on Monday, the Shipping Minister G.K. Vasan said that the Kolkata Port Trust plays an important role for the development of inland waterways transport in Eastern and North Eastern region of the country. Speaking on the occasion the Secretary of Shipping Dr. Vishwapati Trivedi said that the government has approved a new port at Sagar in West Bengal and this will be connected to the Amritsar-Dhankuria corridor in the next few years.
