Centre to introduce Rurban Mission soon: Minister

Union Minister for Rural Development Chaudhary Birender Singh today said at Chandigarh that Centre will soon introduce 'Rurban Mission' to provide cities like facilities in the rural areas. He said that after Smart city project, now 3,000 villages would be developed as Smridh villages. The minister was addressing Meet the Press programme at Chandigarh Press club. <br/><br/>He said that under the mission, a cluster of villages having population upto 50,000 will be formed and later will be developed into a model town in a way like a new township or urban area. He said that as per the criteria, the group of villages may vary from 2-3 to 10-15 based on the population limit of 50,000. The minister said that all the basic amenities will be provided in these model towns, including malls.<br/><br/>The minister said that 2 crore 85 lakh houses would be constructed for BPL families in the rural areas and 11 crore toilets will also be constructed in the rural areas. He also appreciated the efforts taken by state government for the development of the state and said that the new state government has brought new colour to the development by adopting policy of overall development of the state.
