The Centre has decided to import further 30,000 tonne pulses for the buffer stock. Of this, 20 thousand tonne will be Tur and 10 thousand Urad.<br/><br/> The decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of Price Stabilization Fund chaired by Consumer Affairs Secretary Hem Pande in New Delhi today. The procurement of pulses from buffer stock and distribution of the commodity was reviewed in the meeting. <br/><br/>Government agencies have procured about 1.19 tonne of pulses from the domestic market and farmers and 56 thousand have been contracted for import. <br/><br/>The Department of Consumer Affairs has requested States repeatedly to lift the Tur and Urad pulses from the buffer stock for distribution at not more than 120 rupees per kilogram. <br/><br/>Tur pulses are provided to the States at the rate of 67 rupees per kilogram and Urad at the rate of 82. On the request of the State Governments, over 29,000 MT pulses have been allocated to the states so far but only 3 states have lifted some quantities against their allotments.
