Centre to generate 1lakh MW electricity in 12th year plan

The Power Ministry has set a target of generating one lakh mega watt electricity in the 12th year plan. The Union Minister of Power, Sushil Kumar Shinde said this while speaking at National Conference on Balance of Plants in Power Sector, organised in New Delhi today. He said, the target for capacity addition in power is set by the Planning Commission, but the Minitry itself has decided to achieve this target. He said, the12th plan has not begun yet but the Ministry is working towards it. Mr Shinde said, the total installed capacity in the country is about one lakh, 78 thousand mega watt, out of which 38,000 mega watt is the capacity addtion in the current Plan. He said that 12,000 mega watt capacity addition work was carried out in the year 2010-11 which is ever the highest addition in any previous plan. Speaking on the peak hour electricity demand, Mr Shinde said that average energy shortage in the peak hour has reduced to 8 per cent from the earlier shortage of 24 per cent. The Minister also emphasized the need for timely installation of balance of plants like Coal handling plant, Ash handling plant and water treatment plant to start the thermal project.
