The Union Government has agreed in principle to fund the solar lighting project for the Golden Temple and Durgiana Mandir at Amritsar. This assurance was given by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah while addressing an international conference-on -'Renewable Energy-Agenda for the North' at Chandigarh on Wednesday.<br/><br/>Dr Abdullah said that total fiscal assistance for solar lighting and solar cooking at the 'langars' (community kitchens) at the two shrines would be given by ministry. In addition funds would also be sanctioned for the solar lighting of the two shrines.<br/><br/>He said in his address the pilgrims who visit these shrines everyday would carry forward the message to every nook and corner of the country on the need for harnessing solar energy.<br/><br/>He asked the Punjab Government to submit a proposal about this and he would get the necessary funds sanctioned.
