The government will formulate a comprehensive sports policy to facilitate sportsmen by providing pensions and employment opportunities to their family members. The assurance was given by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath in the Lok Sabha on Saturday. Earlier, leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj expressed concern over the plight of the family members of the Arjun Award winner Makhan Singh in Chandigarh. Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, she pleaded with the government to come out with a comprehensive sports policy to provide pension to sports persons and their families by categorizing all sports awards. She urged the sports ministry to be in touch with the widow of Makhan Singh and ensure a dignified life to her family. Quoting media reports, Swaraj said the widow wanted to sell out the medals of her husband to meet her livelihood. She said such incidents will discourage the youth to join sports. She was supported by the entire House.
