Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Srikant Jena said on Saturday that the Central Government is planning to facilitate setting up of plastic parks across the country in an attempt to give a boost to the industry. He was talking to the reporters in Mumbai on the sidelines of the Export Awards function of the Plastics Export Promotion Council. He said the ministry would approach the Planning Commission for setting up plastic parks, each encompassing 100 to 150 acres, and have a cluster of plastic process industries. He added that the government would also consider providing necessary incentives to such clusters. He also said that if approved, the parks might come up from next year onwards. Mr. Jena observed that India, whose plastic exports are USD 3 billion per year, still has a long way to catch up with the market leader China, whose exports total USD 22 billion.
