Centre to distribute 8 lakh seed of pulses free of cost to farmers

Centre has targeted distribution of around eight lakh seed minikits of newer varieties of pulses free of cost to the farmers during current financial year. Minister of State for Agriculture SS Ahluwalia said this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha yesterday. He said, for enhancing the production of breeder seed of pulses, over 20 crore rupees have been approved for 12 Indian Council of Agricultural Research institutes and State Agricultural Universities. <br/><br/>The Minister said, cluster frontline demonstrations of pulses in 31,000 hectares have been allocated to 534 Krishi Vigyan Kendras for the current financial year. The Minister also said, 15 per cent of the allocation for pulses component of National Food Security Mission is earmarked for production of quality seed through states. An incentive of 25 rupees per kg is being provided for pulses seed production.
