Centre to come up with new National Textiles Policy soon: Gangwar

Textiles Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar has said the government will soon come up with a new National Textiles policy aimed at attracting high investment and create more employment opportunities. He said a Cabinet note has been circulated among different ministries for seeking their suggestions. The Minister was speaking to media in New Delhi on the achievements of the NDA government during its one-year rule.The Minister said the government has taken various safeguards to support cotton growers in the country. He said the Minimum Support Price operations were carried out on a large scale through a network of 341 centres of the Cotton Corporation of India. Mr Gangwar said over 92 lakh bales of cotton worth 18 thousand crore rupees have been procured during the season October 2014 – May 2015. Highlighting the government's decision in setting up of Integrated Textile Parks, Mr Gangwar said 20 new textile parks with an investment of 4,500 crore rupees to generate employment for about 66 thousand youths. He said as a result of concerted efforts, the National Textile Corporation, the major central public sector undertaking in textile sector, turned around after a long spell of 22 years.
