Centre to build 1 crore houses under PMAY-G by 2019

Centre today said that one crore houses will be constructed under Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana-Grameen (PMAY-G) by 2019. This was informed by the Minister of State for Rural Development Ram Kripal Yadav in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.<br/><br/>He said, as per provisional figures of Socio Economic and Caste Census 2011, approximately four crore rural households face housing deprivation. Mr Yadav said, Centre has approved the construction of one crore houses with the financial implication of 81 thousand 975 crore rupees for the period 2016-17 to 2018-19. <br/><br/>The Minister said, to achieve the objective of Housing for All, various features have been incorporated into the scheme. It includes availability of sufficient financial resources both in the form of budgetary support and borrowing from NABARD to meet the expenditure for construction of houses, Electronic transfer of assistance under Direct Benefit Transfer to resolve problems of delayed payments and expedite completion.<br/><br/>It also includes comprehensive online monitoring and inspection, geo tagging of houses and setting up of Programme Management Unit at state and sub state level to review progress on a daily basis.
