The Centre has directed the Assam government to nab the ring leaders of both sides, involved in ethnic violence in the state. It however, ruled out a foreign hand in the trouble. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Union Home Secretary RK Singh said 2,000 central security personnel have been deputed to guard Guwahati-bound trains and railway tracks which were disrupted. Mr. Singh said that no one involved in the violence will be spared and the Assam government has been asked to check the violence immediately. He said, the international border is sealed and it is simply impossible for any organised group crossing over to India from across the border to carry out the attacks. Mr. Singh said, 1,000 paramilitary personnel and 1,000 Railway Protection Force personnel have been deputed to guard Assam-bound trains and tracks for smooth running of trains to the northeast. 2,500 paramilitary personnel have reached Assam to assist the local administration while 2,300 more men reached last night.
The home secretary said, another 15 companies of 1,500 personnel are on their way. Mr. Singh said, steps are being taken to stop the violence from spreading to other districts. He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is in constant touch with home minister P Chidambaram, who is briefing him regularly.
