The Centre has decided to allocate 2800 Metric Ton of foodgrains to Sikkim at BPL prices. An official release said that wheat has been allocated at 4.15 rupees per kilogramme and rice at 6.65 rupees per kilogramme in the State. The decision to this effect was taken in the wake of Sunday's earthquake and consequent damage and destruction caused to life and property in the State.The Secretary, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution also spoke to the Food Secretary of Sikkim on Thursday and informed about the decision. The release also said that additional supplies of food grains will be airlifted to Northern parts of Sikkim.
