The Centre is sending a six-member team to West Bengal to review the activities under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (MNAREGA). The six-member team, headed by Anita Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Union Rural Development Ministry, is reaching the state on next Monday. During their stay, the Central team will visit North and South 24 Parganna and Hooghly Districts to have an on-the-spot assessment of the activities under MNAREGA scheme. Giving this information, Minister of State for Punchayats and Rural Development Bankim Ghosh said the 100-days work under MNAREGA scheme were being affected in the state due to non-release of fund by the Centre. The Central team will also take stock of the situation about its earlier release of funds. Earlier, the State Government has urged the Union Ministry for immediate release of Rs 1,117 crore for this purpose.
