Centre taking various measures for benefit of farmers: Agriculture Minister

Agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh said the central government is taking various measures for the benefit of farmers including enhancement in minimum support prices of agricultural commodities, increase in institutional credit flow to agriculture sector and post harvest loan for six months to eliminate distress sale of agricultural produce by farmers. <br/><br/>Replying to a calling attention notice by B S Yeddyurappa in the Lok Sabha on farmers' suicide in Karnataka, Mr Singh said the instances of farmers' suicides, being reported across the country year after year is a matter of grave concern. He said the central government supplements the efforts of states through appropriate policy measures and budgetary support. <br/><br/>The minister informed several steps have been undertaken to revitalise the agriculture sector . He said Karnataka has received 24,789 crore rupees fund in the current financial year.<br/><br/>Mr Singh said under State Disaster Relief Fund the Karnataka government has received 146 crore rupees in two instalments during 2014-15. He said the state will receive an enhanced allocation of 207 crore rupees during the current 2015-16.
