Centre takes no stand on gay sex, leaves it to SC

The Union Cabinet directed the Attorney General to assist the Supreme Court on arriving at an opinion on the correctness of the Delhi High court judgement on homosexuality. Briefing the Media the information and broadcasting Minister Mrs. Ambika soni said the decision was taken after considering the report of the Group of Ministers.The Union Cabinet also approved the payment of Productivity Linked Bonus equivalent to 75 days wages for all Non-Gazetted Railway employees for the year 2008-09.The approval for the setting up of 9 additional National Institutes of Technologies, NITs including five in Goa, Puducherry, Sikkim, Delhi and Uttarakhand has also been given by the cabinet. Other NITs will be at Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland.The Cabinet also approved the amendment proposed by the Health Ministry to the Transplantation of Human Organs Act. The amendment will make the process of transplantation more patient-friendly and impose stringent punishment for anybody involved in organ trafficking.
