Centre suspes environment clearances to 93 Goan mines

Union Minister for Environment and Forests, Ms. Jayanthi Natarajan today said, her Ministry will suspend environmental clearances given to all the 93 mines in Goa. She said, the notification to this effect will be issued shortly.

Addressing a press conference at Panaji in Goa, Ms.Natarajan said, the Centre is analysing the Justice Shah Commission report on illegal mining in several states including Goa and whoever is indicted in the report, will not be spared as per the rules in force.

The Union Minister said, the Central government which stands for integrity and accountability, is committed to the development of Goa. She accused the Chief Minister of Goa, Manohar Parriker, of acting on a political vendetta on mining issue.
