Centre has stressed collective action combined with efforts by civil society organisations to eliminate child labour. The Secretary in the ministry of Women and child Development, Neela Gangadhran said this while speaking at the commemoration of the World Anti-child Labour Day in New Delhi today.
Ms. Gangadhran highlighted the problem of child labour in the country and said that it is linked with several inter-connected issues including poverty, unemployment, gender and non-accessibility of basic services in many rural areas. She said, government through its various Ministries and Departments has framed legislations to prevent and eliminate child labour in all settings and in all forms.
Ms. Gangadharan said there is a urgent need of vocational education for the children which will lead to skill development and enable to seek better opportunities of employment.
