The Centre has stressed the importance of collaboration with the United States in food and drug regulation to provide exposure to Indian regulators in best international practices in the field.
This was stated by Health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad while speaking at the headquarters of the US Food and Drug Regulatory Administration (FDA) in Maryland.
Interacting with high officials at the FDA, Mr. Azad highlighted the importance of drug and food regulation in the lives of people and presented an overview of the Indian food and drug industry.
He stated that the Indian food industry is estimated to be worth about 135 billion US Dollars. He added there has been a rapid growth in the sector, especially the processed food industry.
The Minister noted that India is regarded as the pharmacy of the developing world due to its focus on accessibility and affordability.
