Centre stands with Assam in efforts to bring peace to state : Home Min

The Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said that the immediate task of the government is to restore peace in the violence hit areas of Assam and rehabilitation of the displaced people.Talking to newsmen in Guwahati yesterday, the Union Home Minister said that Assam government has prepared detail plan to restore peace and rehabilitate the displaced people. Underlining the importance of relief, rehabilitation and security measures, Chidambaram said that Centre stands with the Assam government to maintain peace and harmony in the affected areas. The Home Minister said that the inmates being sheltered at relief camps are eager to go home and he termed it as good sign.He said , perhaps Assam is the most complex state to govern as it is the land of different ethnic groups.So far 56 people lost their lives and more than 50 people sustained injuries. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi reiterated that government will form enquiry to look into the matter and the culprits will be punished soon.Earlier, the Home Minister visited Kokrajhar and Chirang district and took stock of the situation. He will visit Dhubri district today.He is likely to visit a few relief camps. Senior BJP leader L K Advani also visited Kokrajhar yesterday and met the representatives of various civil society organisations.
