The Centre has stepped up medical relief operations in flood hit Jammu and Kashmir. The Health Ministry, in a statement, said that a group of 20 specialist doctors from the Delhi Medical Association has been sent to serve the affected areas of the state. To improve the outreach services, the Ministry suggested to mobilies boats for medical supplies.
A control room has been set up in the Ministry which is functioning round the clock.
Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptullah has announced 120 crore rupees relief and rehabilitation package for flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir.
Briefing media in New Delhi yesterday, the Minister said, that package has been worked out through the implementation of various schemes of her Ministry.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a complete ban on transfers and postings of its officials till further orders so that they could devote their attention to relief and rehabilitation work in flood affected areas.
Transfers and adjustments and attachments made by the School Education Department since the first of this month have also been cancelled. State government has also announced the setting up of Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund to receive donations from the individuals, business establishments and NGOs for flood affected people.
Contributions can be remitted in favour of Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund Account in Jammu and Kashmir Bank. The J&K Bank has partially restored its operations in the state. It has reopened 312 branches in the Kashmir valley, out of a total of 379 branches. J&K Bank spokesman Anil Sharma said, 189 ATMs have also been made operational.
Meanwhile, rescuers have recovered 16 bodies from the flood affected Jawahar Nagar and adjoining areas of Srinagar city. The bodies are being recovered from those area still sub-merged under water.
