Centre scraps technical evaluation report on bullet proof jackets

The government has scrapped the technical evaluation report on bullet-proof jackets in the wake of alleged malpractices in the tender floated for procuring 59,000 such jackets. The government has also recommended action against a DRDO official RK Verma who was part of the evaluation panel.

Dismissing the earlier tender proceedings, the Home Ministry decided to cancel the test reports of jackets submitted by the Terminal Ballistic Research Laboratory (TBRL) and asked the bidders to submit new samples for testing them afresh .

Our correspondent says that the Ministry had received several complaints from different quarters including a CD purportedly containing conversations between Verma and one of the bidders. The Home Ministry had given the directions earlier last month that the tender process should be stayed, following theese complaints . The action by the Home Ministry comes on the basis of recommendations of Tender Advisory Committee, TAC, following the examination of the CD. The Home Ministry has said that TAC as well as the Tehnical Evaluation Committee, TEC should maintain strict vigilance and ensure scrupulous adherence to the terms and conditions of the tender.
